Many Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations include a traditional candle lighting ceremony, where special people in the child’s life are called up to light a candle on the Bar or Bat Mitzvah cake, until all 13 (or more) candles are lit.
The team at Mitzvah Market is always searching the internet to find new and creative ways in which families are incorporating this wonderful tradition into their reception.
We love the creativity of the idea below!

This wonderful “Mitzvah Inspire” is courtesy of photographer Terry Goodman of Platinum Photography Ohio. Her client, Bat Mitzvah girl Hillary, opted to do something different, and instead of a traditional candle lighting ceremony, she had groups of friends and family members help her “bake” her Bat Mitzvah cake!
Each of the special people were invited up to add another ingredient, such as flour, an egg or butter to Hillary’s mixing bowl, until her mix was complete. Hillary’s batter was sent back to the kitchen to “bake” as the Bat Mitzvah celebration continued. Before the party ended, her beautiful cake, topped with an edible shopping bag to reflect her party’s theme was displayed for the guests to see.

A guest adds butter to the batter!

More ingredients go in…

Hillary’s friends add some eggs

The finished cake!
Thank you to Platinum Photography and Hillary for sharing this great idea with our Mitzvah Market readers. For another unique candle lighting idea, click here.

This Mitzvah Inspire is courtesy of Katie Smith Photography in Florida.
They opted not to have favors or fancy introductions for their son Robert’s Bar Mitzvah, instead they wanted a fun party aboard a yacht.
From the looks of these photos, that’s exactly what they got!
If you live in a climate where you can take advantage of the nice weather…this is the way to go!

The Lady Atlantic is an party yacht based in Delray Beach, Florida and it was the perfect place for a Bar Mitzvah. The vessel is a 105 foot air-conditioned luxury yacht with three different floors and travels up and down the intracoastal.

A nautical scroll invitation set the theme in motion!

The ceremony took place dockside next to the yacht

The decor on the yacht was done with white and blue balloons in keeping with the theme

Guests enjoy their meal while catching views of the intracoastal

Guests dance!

A fun round of limbo!

A perfect picture of Robert and his friends!

When New York and New Jersey families receive their child’s Bar Bat Mitzvah date, it can be overwhelming. There are many Bar Bat Mitzvah decisions to make, but we are here to help.
Attending Bar Bat Mitzvah showcases are an efficient approach to gaining many great ideas and meeting prospective vendors. Check out local dates for our Celebrate! Party Showcase.
Here’s how to make the most of your time at our events.
TOP 5 BAR BAT MITZVAH PLANNING TIPS
1. Develop a Bar Bat Mitzvah Timeline for selecting your vendors in advance. Decide who you need to hire first. It helps to talk with other friends who have already been through the Bar Bat Mitzvah planning process.

The Mitzvah Market team is here to help. We can answer questions at info@mitzvahmarket.com
2. Establish a firm budget so you can best allocate your money.

3. Interview 3 vendors for each major area you are considering. For example: entertainment, venues, favors. Compare price, professionalism/testimonials and quality of work.

4. Ask your child’s opinion early, they might have strong preferences about their Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration.

5. Once you hire your vendors, make sure they know what is important to you and your family. What type of celebration you are trying to throw for your child’s milestone event.

Visit MitzvahMarket.com to get hundreds of ideas from other families, professionals and the Mitzvah Moms.

Save Money: Do It Yourself Theme Centerpieces for Your Next Party or Event
Your big day is coming up and custom theme centerpieces play a big role in setting the mood for your party. Your day can be made even more special if you say, “I made it myself.”
Custom party decorations such as centerpieces do not have to be a big budget or your pocket book drain. You can put together cheap (or rather budget) do it yourself centerpieces and still make a big impact on your guests.
My first suggestion is to look for centerpiece parts at a nearby dollar store. You can use an inexpensive vase, toy pail, beach bucket or even a pretty shopping bag with a handle as a base. Other choices include inexpensive baskets, back packs and even lunch buckets. We have used sand, pebbles or even a water filled balloon (in emergencies only!) wrapped in a piece of mylar paper.
You attach related theme items to whatever base you select with wire or dowels from a hardware store. Use a low temperature glue gun, double faced tape or a sticky temporary adhesive.
For instance, if you are planning a beach theme start with a pail. Add sand toys coming out of the pail. Garnish with inexpensive shells, fishing net, star fish, toy shovels and spades, etc.

Being creative with your centerpieces is a great way to save without skimping. Look for unusual items that will make great conversation pieces at your event. Pick items with lots of color and “character”. Choosing items that can later be donated to a charity is another great way to have your centerpiece help enrich the lives of others.
Buying these items and other items at a dollar store not only saves money, it saves time having to go from store to store looking for the items you need. You can build your centerpiece as you are shopping the aisles of the dollar store!

We love when a Mitzvah Mom is so happy with one of her Vendors, that she writes in to let us know.
Here’s what we received from Gail Saul of East Northport, New York about her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah favors created by Jaylor Party Favors.
“It was a pleasure doing business with Lori. She helped my daughter and I find the perfect design for her sweatshirts for her “fantasy nightclub” theme, and we were all impressed with the product.”

She continues, “She also helped me order just the right number of sweatshirts in each size necessary, and I found her to be very knowledgeable and easy to work with. The quality of the sweatshirts was also very good compared to what I have seen with other favors. I would definitely recommend Lori if you want a quality, cool favor.”
