Make Your Own Centerpieces

Save Money: Do It Yourself Theme Centerpieces for Your Next Party or Event

Your big day is coming up and custom theme centerpieces play a big role in setting the mood for your party. Your day can be made even more special if you say, “I made it myself.”

Custom party decorations such as centerpieces do not have to be a big budget or your pocket book drain. You can put together cheap (or rather budget) do it yourself centerpieces and still make a big impact on your guests.

My first suggestion is to look for centerpiece parts at a nearby dollar store. You can use an inexpensive vase, toy pail, beach bucket or even a pretty shopping bag with a handle as a base. Other choices include inexpensive baskets, back packs and even lunch buckets. We have used sand, pebbles or even a water filled balloon (in emergencies only!) wrapped in a piece of mylar paper.

You attach related theme items to whatever base you select with wire or dowels from a hardware store. Use a low temperature glue gun, double faced tape or a sticky temporary adhesive.

For instance, if you are planning a beach theme start with a pail. Add sand toys coming out of the pail. Garnish with inexpensive shells, fishing net, star fish, toy shovels and spades, etc.

ABC Parties

Being creative with your centerpieces is a great way to save without skimping. Look for unusual items that will make great conversation pieces at your event. Pick items with lots of color and “character”. Choosing items that can later be donated to a charity is another great way to have your centerpiece help enrich the lives of others.

Buying these items and other items at a dollar store not only saves money, it saves time having to go from store to store looking for the items you need. You can build your centerpiece as you are shopping the aisles of the dollar store!
