Mom Advice from Bari
“Organize, organize, organize!!! Attention to detail is a must. I created a binder which I named my “Mitzvah Manual” with tabs/sections for each vendor and my budget. Your team is critical and you have to make sure that all your vendors are introduced to each other and in constant communication. I assembled a “DREAM TEAM” and could not have asked for a better crew. Be prepared to go over budget…that is the best advice I can give!”

This Bat Mitzvah girl wanted a true “theme” for her Bat Mitzvah party. The venue Pine Hollow Country Club in East Norwich, New York was transformed into “Julia In Wonderland” for this special celebration.
The whimsical decor put guests right into the middle of a fairy tale in every way. The highlights of the evening included the “live” interactive tables and magical WOW of an entrance!

Mom to Mom Advice
“While many kids choose NOT to have a theme and want to create more of a nightclub atmosphere, I felt that choosing a theme allowed all my vendors to let their creativity run wild! The excitement surrounding the “Julia in Wonderland” planning made all of our meetings with the vendors so much fun! It also allowed Julia to step out of her everyday world and enter a fantasy world for the evening. In addition, Dazzling Parties truly transformed the venue into a dream world that set the tone for the entire party. Spending the extra money on the decor is always a worthwhile investment.”

Sixth-grader Kayla Distenfeld of Teaneck, New Jersey created the perfect Bat Mitzvah project called, “Helping Hands with Rubber Bands.”
Kayla first discovered her love for weaving after she got a loom for her birthday a few years ago. Though she was having trouble weaving with yarn, she figured out how to do it with rubber bands. Kayla then began creating rubber band headbands. This hobby is now benefiting Chai Lifeline, an organization that finds ways to bring joy to the lives of young sick patients and their families. through family centered programs, activities and services.
Pictured L-R: Mom Rachel with Kayla selling headbands at the Sinai School Boutique.
We asked Kayla a few questions about her Mitzvah Project:
MM: Does your project have a start and end date, and if so, what are they?
KD: I started at the beginning of the summer last year and I would like to continue until I reach my goal of $1,800. So far I have raised $900. By raising $1,800, I can fulfill a special wish of a sick child through the Dare2Dream program of Chai Lifeline.
MM: Can you give us details of your Mitzvah Project?
KD: I am making headbands out of the rubber bands used in rainbow looms, which was a thing a year ago. I sell each headband for $10. The proceeds go towards the Dare2Dream Program. I want to fulfill the wish of a sick child. I am determined to reach my goal by the end of September 2017, just in time for my Bat Mitzvah.
Kayla's poster and beautiful headbands on display
MM: In your own words, what does it mean to you to do a Mitzvah Project for your Bat Mitzvah?
KD: I feel like a Bat Mitzvah project is a chance for girls to make a difference in the world as they become a fulfilled Jewish woman.
MM: How long can people donate to this charity?
KD: Until I reach my goal of $1,800 and I am half way there!
MM: What are you doing to spreading the word?
KD: I am selling my headbands at Carly’s Craze in Teaneck, New Jersey and I also sold them at the Sinai School Boutique. I am spreading the word on Facebook courtesy of my mother.
For further information about Helping Hands With Rubber Bands Bat Mitzvah Project, please email headbandsbykayla@yahoo.com or private message Mom Rachel through Facebook.
We thank Kayla and her family for sharing her great Bat Mitzvah Project with our readers and wish her much success in reaching her goal!

The Weinstein family celebrated daughter Meira’s Bat Mitzvah in a very familiar place! There was “no place like home” as they decided the perfect venue should be their beautiful backyard.
The “Baked by Meira” theme, along with colorful pom pom decor, was thoroughly integrated by Mom Michal, a talented graphic artist and event planner. We think she had a hand in the weather too…it was perfect! We featured older sister Eliana’s Hollywood themed Bat Mitzvah a few years ago.

Melisa Imberman of The Event Of A Lifetime, Inc. coordinated a technology inspired Bar Mitzvah recently. This celebration at the Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk, Connecticut used the iconic “b”, found on the Beats by Dre, as the logo for Bar Mitzvah boy Bennett. The Museum was turned into a cool hi-tech lounge. The tech theme was incorporated into the decor, menu, lounge, bar, activities and unique candle lighting showpiece.
The photographer was Chad David Kraus Photography.
Bar Mitzvah Decor
The sign in the front of the Stepping Stones Museum "b Party This Way" gave guests a hint as to what they were going to see inside
The venue was lit like a hi-tech lounge

The other custom pillow with #bennettbarmitzvah
Bar Mitzvah Candle Lighting
There were iPads instead of candles inserted into holes of the kiosk. Each one had Bennett's logo
When guests were called up, they touched the iPad and the logo turned into a lit candle with a flickering flame!
After all candles were lit, Bennett blew them out and the screens went blank
Special Details
Escort card display was a giant laptop with the “b” logo screensaver with personalized cards for guests that resembled an iPhone with a text conversation telling them where to sit
There was also a message from Bar Mitzvah boy Bennett
At each place setting, there was a menu card in the shape of a iPad with a text conversation about what’s for dinner
The yarmulke inscription included #Bennett Bar Mitzvah
Guests were encouraged to take pictures and post it on social media with the hashtag #bennettbarmitzvah
Interactive Fun
This Twister game was projected on the dance floor giving Bennett's friends the ultimate Twister experience. The “b” from Bennett’s logo was in the blue circle
With all the old-fashioned Twister fun
Guests got to slip on their virtual reality goggles and play video games
Bar Mitzvah Favors
