August 10th, 2017

New York City “Madison” Avenue Themed Bat Mitzvah

The Jamnik family celebrated daughter Madison’s Bat Mitzvah service at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston, NJ, which was followed by a celebration in her honor at the W Hotel in Hoboken, NJ. The theme centered around “Madi Takes Manhattan” with the ballroom and dance floor divided into an “Uptown” section for the adults and a “Downtown” section for Madison and her friends.

Melissa Friedman Photography was the photographer. You can find all the vendor information at the end of the spotlight.

The decor was done by Mindi Harrison Shaevitz, owner of Flower Power Designs.

Mitzvah Fun

The kids’ cocktail hour was loaded with activities, including a virtual roller coaster, a street sign making shop, and an airbrush station where Madison’s friends created trucker hats and cell phone cases. The adult cocktail hour took place at Lulu’s, a club within the W Hotel.

Madison’s Mitzvah Project

Madison spent three months volunteering at an after school daycare program in East Orange, New Jersey run by the National Council of Jewish Women. Madison read with the children, participated in arts and crafts projects, and played games  – teaching her an invaluable life lesson.

Mom Advice from Bari

“Organize, organize, organize!!! Attention to detail is a must. I created a binder which I named my “Mitzvah Manual” with tabs/sections for each vendor and my budget. Your team is critical and you have to make sure that all your vendors are introduced to each other and in constant communication. I assembled a “DREAM TEAM” and could not have asked for a better crew. Be prepared to go over budget…that is the best advice I can give!”

A Beach Themed Bat Mitzvah In Westchester

Melisa Imberman of The Event Of A Lifetime, Inc. coordinated a beach themed Bat Mitzvah recently at the beautiful Shenorock Shore Club in Rye, New York. The venue overlooks the Long Island Sound making it the perfect location for a beach-themed Bat Mitzvah. A Modern Alice (Julia) In Wonderland Bat Mitzvah Theme

A Modern Alice (Julia) In Wonderland Bat Mitzvah Theme

This Bat Mitzvah girl wanted a true “theme” for her Bat Mitzvah party. The venue Pine Hollow Country Club in East Norwich, New York was transformed into “Julia In Wonderland” for this special celebration.

The whimsical decor put guests right into the middle of a fairy tale in every way. The highlights of the evening included the “live” interactive tables and magical WOW of an entrance!

White Light Photography and Video was the photographer and the rest of the vendor information is listed at the end of the spotlight.

Mom to Mom Advice

“While many kids choose NOT to have a theme and want to create more of a nightclub atmosphere, I felt that choosing a theme allowed all my vendors to let their creativity run wild! The excitement surrounding the “Julia in Wonderland” planning made all of our meetings with the vendors so much fun! It also allowed Julia to step out of her everyday world and enter a fantasy world for the evening. In addition, Dazzling Parties truly transformed the venue into a dream world that set the tone for the entire party. Spending the extra money on the decor is always a worthwhile investment.”

Helping Hands With Rubber Bands Bat Mitzvah Project
July 27th, 2017

Helping Hands With Rubber Bands Bat Mitzvah Project

Sixth-grader Kayla Distenfeld of Teaneck, New Jersey created the perfect Bat Mitzvah project called, “Helping Hands with Rubber Bands.”

Kayla first discovered her love for weaving after she got a loom for her birthday a few years ago. Though she was having trouble weaving with yarn, she figured out how to do it with rubber bands. Kayla then began creating rubber band headbands. This hobby is now benefiting Chai Lifeline, an organization that finds ways to bring joy to the lives of young sick patients and their families. through family centered programs, activities and services.

Pictured L-R: Mom Rachel with Kayla selling headbands at the Sinai School Boutique.

We asked Kayla a few questions about her Mitzvah Project:

MM: Does your project have a start and end date, and if so, what are they?
KD: I started at the beginning of the summer last year and I would like to continue until I reach my goal of $1,800. So far I have raised $900. By raising $1,800, I can fulfill a special wish of a sick child through the Dare2Dream program of Chai Lifeline.

MM: Can you give us details of your Mitzvah Project?
KD:
I am making headbands out of the rubber bands used in rainbow looms, which was a thing a year ago. I sell each headband for $10. The proceeds go towards the Dare2Dream Program. I want to fulfill the wish of a sick child. I am determined to reach my goal by the end of September 2017, just in time for my Bat Mitzvah.

MM: In your own words, what does it mean to you to do a Mitzvah Project for your Bat Mitzvah?
KD:
I feel like a Bat Mitzvah project is a chance for girls to make a difference in the world as they become a fulfilled Jewish woman.

MM: How long can people donate to this charity?
KD: Until I reach my goal of $1,800 and I am half way there!

MM: What are you doing to spreading the word?
KD: I am selling my headbands at Carly’s Craze in Teaneck, New Jersey and I also sold them at the Sinai School Boutique. I am spreading the word on Facebook courtesy of my mother.

For further information about Helping Hands With Rubber Bands Bat Mitzvah Project, please email headbandsbykayla@yahoo.com or private message Mom Rachel through Facebook.

We thank Kayla and her family for sharing her great Bat Mitzvah Project with our readers and wish her much success in reaching her goal!

Baked By Meira Colorful Backyard Bat Mitzvah

Baked By Meira Colorful Backyard Bat Mitzvah

The Weinstein family celebrated daughter Meira’s Bat Mitzvah in a very familiar place! There was “no place like home” as they decided the perfect venue should be their beautiful backyard.

The “Baked by Meira” theme, along with colorful pom pom decor, was thoroughly integrated by Mom Michal, a talented graphic artist and event planner. We think she had a hand in the weather too…it was perfect! We featured older sister Eliana’s Hollywood themed Bat Mitzvah a few years ago.

Pictured L-R:  Sisters Eliana and Reva, Bat Mitzvah girl Meira, Dad Jonathan, Mom Michal and Brother Jacob.

Meira had a bake sale and raised $1,200 selling mini cupcakes for Kids of Courage. This organization is a groundbreaking volunteer organization dedicated to the support of sick children and their families, day and night, 365 days a year. Founded in 2008, Kids of Courage is committed to change the way people look at illness, and open up a world of support, hope and opportunity for every sick child and family, no matter how serious the diagnosis.

Some advice from Mom Michal:

“Be organized, start early, think outside the box. We were blessed with great weather, however doing an outdoor party is a risk…always have a plan B.”

The Schneider family from Scarsdale, New York, celebrated their son Jaxon’s Bar Mitzvah at the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, New York and a party later that evening at LIFE…the place to be, in Ardsley, New York.

The theme was designed around the Bar Mitzvah boy’s first and middle name, Jaxon Dean, using a take-off of the Jack Daniel’s style logo. This party was loaded with lots of masculine touches and fun details.

There was so much to do there and even though I am a younger volunteer, I hope to continue this commitment for years to come.
