The Barnett family from Boca Raton, Florida, celebrated son Brett’s Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, January 24, 2015. The service was held in the morning at Congregation B’nai Israel and then it was onto the outdoor party held at the Sunset Cove Amphitheater in Boca Raton, Florida.
B.A.D, Colors 2015 was the theme, standing for (Brett After Dark). The family wanted it to feel like the Color Runs that are popular at festivals and 5ks. There were lots of glow-in-the dark colors, great music, delicious food, which were all really B.A.D,
Pictured above L-R: Brother Kyle, Mom Misti, Bar Mitzvah boy Brett, Dad Craig and Brother Tyler.
M Studio was the photographer and the rest of the vendor information is listed at the bottom of the spotlight.

The service was held at Congregation B’nai Israel.

Dad Craig designed the service program which featured a colorful picture of Brett

The family worked with Karen Rosenwater Schloss of Creative Impressions on the neon green invitation.

The stamp was created on Zazzle.com

White shirts and jeans were the appropriate attire in anticipation for the burst of colors that was to come.

B.A.D. Colors 2015 was the theme. Party Planner Julie Cohen of It Events worked with the family and it all went off without a hitch! Everyone got into the spirit of the night especially when the color powder was discharged from 15 fire extinguishers.

The after shot

The venue was the very cool Sunset Cove Amphitheater in Boca Raton, Florida. It’s an entertainment facility that hosts concerts and festivals.

The stage changed colors all night long

Since B.A.D. Colors was the theme it was also integrated into the many delicious food options available to guests including food trucks and concession stand type of food — all delicious and gourmet by caterer Potions in Motions.

Servers wore custom logo’d t-shirts

ICEE Frozen Desserts was a great way to cool off

There was a sign-in book and poster for guests to leave a note to Brett.

Fun colorful glow-in-the-dark giveaways were a big hit

Great zap shots of all the action was shown on a loop throughout the party on large screens

The Mugshot Photo Booth Favor was custom designed by South Beach Photo Booth Company. There was also a tattoo artist from the Painted Phoenix.

The Barnett boys are a B.A.D. crew, but look adorable!

Tattoos with custom logo stencil allowed everyone to be B.A.D.

Brett’s guests received long sleeve t-shirt favors wrapped in clear plastic with custom labels.

On their way out, guests had their choice of some great desserts: Dunkin’ Donuts, a candy bar and custom M&M’s.

From Dad Craig and Mom Misti:
“Do not be afraid to think out of the box in order to create something truly unique and memorable. If you don’t see what you want, don’t be afraid to create it yourself and make it truly unique. The Internet is a great source of ideas and lower cost alternatives to customizing your party. Don’t feel obligated to follow the herd. There are no “must-haves.” Include those elements that you want and skip those you don’t. Most importantly, make sure the party fits the honoree’s personality.”

The following vendors helped to make Brett’s Bar Mitzvah special. If you give any of them a call, let them know you read about their services on MitzvahMarket.com.

Sydney Lefton of St. Louis, Missouri celebrated her Bat Mitzvah in April, 2011 and did a terrific Mitzvah Project which benefited North Side Community School a school for kids from kindergarten-2nd grade.
We think Sydney’s Mitzvah Project idea can be done by any child across the country and asked her some questions to get more details on what she accomplished and how she pulled it off!
Please continue reading to learn more:
MM: Why did you decide to take on this particular project?
SL: I came in touch with North Side Community School when my 6th grade class took a field trip there. We went there to play and read with the students and I learned just how important it is to appreciate what you have. I was very sad but inspired to see and hear just how much each of these kids have gone through in their short lives. They had very few books in each classroom that had been purchased by the teacher and they didn’t have a library. This is why I choose to help create a library for them as my Mitzvah Project.
MM: Can you give us details of your Mitzvah Project.
SL: I had an open house for 2 days during the weekend. I sent out flyer’s to everyone who I was going to invite to my Bat Mitzvah. It was an overwhelming response. We had over 100 people show up and I collected over 1600 books in all. My friends came and stayed for a couple of hours. It was a lot of fun.

Sydney with all the books she collected!
MM: In your own words, what does it mean to you to do a Mitzvah Project for your Bat Mitzvah?
SL: It is such a great feeling to know how much I have helped the school and the children. When I delivered the books the kids faces said it all. They were so overwhelmed and happy to be getting the books.

The happy children of the North Side Community Center
MM: How long can people donate to this charity?
SL: My Mitzvah Project is over but I am sure they would be happy to still accept donations of money.
MM: Anything else we need to know about your Mitzvah Project?
SL: It was a great success and I couldn’t be happier about how many books I was able to give to the school.
Congratulation Sydney on a job well done. Thank you for sharing your Mitzvah Project with our readers. We know you have inspired others to do the same!

We received this great Bat Mitzvah Inspire from Karen Goldstein of Blush Photo in Boston, Massachusetts.
This is a really unique party and we know you’ll enjoy this night of disguise!
The Bat Mitzvah girl wanted a masked ball theme for her celebration. She wanted to do something that would be both festive and different, as well as give people the opportunity to be creative. Her family and friends bought masks from as far away as Italy for this event!

The Bat Mitzvah girl’s family got most of their masks from Masquerade Enterprises

Guests got into the fun!

A masked mannequin was the centerpiece on the place card table

The color scheme of the party was blue and green

A gold mask was at each guests’ place setting

Masks on mannequins added to the decor

There were also feather boas and Mardi Gras beads to make the party feel like a masquerade right out of a Shakespeare play!

What took center stage at this celebration was the variety of masks – from Venetian to Mardi Gras to theatrical and even homemade

Guests tore the dance floor up with entertainment from Siagel Productions

Guests got into the fun by wearing masks

Young guests enjoy wearing their masks

Friends were treated to mobile flip books by Fun Flips!

The covers for the flip books were personalized for Kieva’s Bat Mitzvah

As part of the entertainment and still keeping with the theme these young guests enjoyed dressing up

What a creative Bat Mitzvah celebration. Thanks to Blush Photo for sharing this party with Mitzvah Market.

From Occasions Magazine, we share with you a B’nai Mitzvah for twin brothers in the Atlanta area who love sports. They used each of their favorites as their theme: baseball and golf.
Bring in Your Party by Karen, an Atlanta event planner and Event Savvy Atlanta and you hit a home run and come in under par for this party!
The pictures were all taken by Chuck Robertson Photography and all the vendors used are in the Atlanta area.

The “SportsCenter” themed event took place on a Saturday night in October 2010, at The Foundry at Puritan Mill and was branded “Kwatnez Sportz,” for the boys last name. The boys logo incorporated their last name

Guests were greeted by two lockers, a baseball and golf ball with pictures of the boys

The walk from the cocktail hour to reception had a step and repeat complete with an appropriate “green” carpet with the boys logo on one side and draping with pictures of the boys in action on the other side

The step and repeat featured their logo

Hanging from the ceiling the family used the boys own sports jerseys – what a great idea!

Adult guests enjoyed their meal with a chef-attended “snack bar” featuring specials written up on a chalkboard

Golf and baseball themed wire sculptures decorated some of the tables along with some wheat grass and votive candles

A simple and fun golf ball centerpiece

Custom fabric photo panels of the boys displayed on the front and backsides of the structural columns

Various sports team pennants were on display

The guests munched on snacks from a custom hot-dog bar

Lockers were used for friends to leave messages for the boys

Of course, no sporting event is complete without the game, so a satellite dish was set up to enable live feed of the Florida vs. Alabama football game throughout the party
We thank Occasions Magazine for sharing this B’nai Mitzvah with our readers.

Not all Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrations use place cards, but when you do, it’s usually the first thing your guests see.
There are some very creative ideas to be found on the Internet from talented Mitzvah vendors and families. We know you loved our previous story, Where Are We Sitting, so we thought we would bring you a new batch!
We hope they bring you inspiration:

From It’s A Wrap here is a music themed Bat Mitzvah place card. They are actually note pads decorated with musical notes, and the clip that held the pad together was also a musical note

Janice Blackmon Events used flash lights with tags indicating the guests’ “bunk numbers” for a camp themed Mitzvah

We love these teacups from Life Of The Party Productions for an Alice In Wonderland Bat Mitzvah

From Do It With More Options, these “chair” place card favor boxes can hold an added treat/sweet!

Party Perfect used mini taxi cabs for this urban themed Bar Mitzvah as the seating card

We found a Mitzvah family whose son loves lego and they created place cards from his collection!

iPod seating card and display from Balloon Artistry

These CD cases from Just Jayne Events are printed with the covers of the Bar Mitzvah boy’s favorite albums, his logo and the guest’s names. They are filled with his favorite candy. It was a music/club themed event and the boy is a big music lover

From East 7th Street Promotions, each guests received popcorn for this movie theme!

It Events By Julie created these clever place cards on moss for a “horse” themed Mitzvah

Here is another example of how you can use your child’s initials as part of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah theme!
A Bat Mitzvah girl with the initials “P” and “S” used her passion for purple with a P.S. theme for her service and reception at Warehouse 5 in Island Park, New York.
We found this colorful celebration on the Ellie Photography blog who was the secondary shooter to NYC photographer Kat Cheng.

The day was beautiful and a glorious setting for a “purplicious” Bat Mitzvah.

This beautiful purple invitation with a pucci design was created by Ellen Futterman, Proper Notice

The service and reception was held in the same venue with drapery creating the service area

Purple zebra print yarmulkes match the theme

Purple spandex covered the chairs

Perri’s beautiful dress was from It’s Simply For You. We love the touch of purple!

Purple and zebra decor was beautifully created by Barbara Becker of Dazzling Parties

The Bat Mitzvah girl’s sign in book matched the decor and was also created by Dazzling Parties

The sleek lounge decor just needs an accent of purple with pillows and balloons

Matching linens and unique floral arrangements

An easy logo with these initials

Music entertainment was provided by Entertainment Tonite
We want to thank Ellie Photography for sharing this colorful Bat Mitzvah with our readers.

Biz Bash, the ultimate in event trends and style has released its “hot” new Fall menu ideas from top catering companies around the world.
According to Biz Bash, there are two big buzz words this year: customization and interactivity. Many are trying to give their guests an interactive catering experience and the chance to try something new. Make-your-own stations are all the rage and go beyond just candy bars.
Here’s some tasty inspiration and ideas for your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration in the food department!

From Tip of the Tongue comes apple chicken potpie for one using local upstate New York Cortland apples and assorted autumn vegetables

Elegant Affairs Caterers offers passed mini Pop Tart lollipops in apple cinnamon, strawberry, and s’mores flavors

Fancy Girl Table created Parmesan cups with roasted ruby queen beets, cauliflower, carrots, and smoked tomato pesto. What a great veggie mini meal!

Dish Food & Events offers made-to-order risotto martinis with bay scallops and rock shrimp or asparagus and wild mushroom

Abigail Kirsch puts their twist on cookies and milk with peanut butter and jelly macaroons, a mint oreo, a black and white, and a warm chocolate chunk cookie. All served with a caramel milk shake and fortune cookie…who says you can’t have it all!

We love this idea! Cork Catering set up a make-your-own s’mores station at a recent event

For those serving their guests breakfast or brunch, Mary Giuliani Catering & Events in New York created a devil-your-own-egg bar with hard-boiled eggs set on ceramic cartons and mini pails filled with toppings like paprika, caper powder, chives, and bacon

Pinch Food Design in New York creates taco stations, where guests could decorate homemade tortillas with an array of toppings served in custom-made resin pedestal pieces inspired by handcrafted Mexican pottery

Elegant Affairs Caterers also creates “salad-tinis” made by “chef-tenders,” who mixed ingredients with oversized drink shakers and served them in martini glasses

L-Eat Catering in Toronto now uses a four-compartment dish for multiple entrées, including the above of roasted petit beef tenderloin fillet, miso-glazed black cod, mushroom risotto, and a green bean bundle

Creative Tastes Catering & Event Production in Miami serves meals from mason jars with spoons attached, including a created breakfast-on-the-go with yogurt trifle

Where should I put my stuff?
Cubbies at your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a great place for kids to store their shoes, party favors, gift bags and anything else they brought along!
Each cubby should be personalized with your young guests’ name so everyone has their own spot.
A must have for some celebrations, here are a few we have featured and some we found online!

These cubbies were featured in the Goldenberg Bar Mitzvah Family spotlight

For a camp themed Mitzvah, The Crystal Plaza used net bags (the ones many of the kids take to camp) with young guests favors inside

White cubbies look great with favor bags in orange, lime and blue from Successful Affairs

Great Neck Games transformed a ballroom and put in these cubbies for a beach themed Mitzvah Inspire

From Eventful Productions, great graffiti inspired lockers/cubbies for an urban themed party

Black cubbies make the teal favor bags pop from the Tacher Bat Mitzvah Family spotlight

Authentic lockers from East 7th Street Promotions

Cupcake dipped in chocolate that sits on a pretzel. Do we really need to talk you into this? The Mitzvah Market team tried these and thought they were a very delicious and decadent dessert!
Popsy Cakes started 3 years ago as a High School project for 16 year-old Jessica Cervantes from Miami and has turned into a national cupcake business.
She had emigrated to the U.S. from Cuba as a child, loved to bake in her Grandmother’s kitchen and competed against 25,000 business students across the country and won first place in the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship – wow!
What a great favor for your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Flavors include: strawberry milkshake, dark chocolate decadence, vanilla bean dream, and red velvet rush. It can be customized with swirls, sprinkles and ribbons and they can design something special with your child’s name or theme.
