Who better to find the latest and greatest for all things Bar Bat Mitzvahs than our own Mitzvah Moms?
For Mitzvah Mom Caroline, this was her third and final Bar Mitzvah! We spotlighted Ben and Jason and now it was Casey’s turn.
When it came time to decide on a sign-in, it was totally DIY for Caroline. She designed custom high-top sneakers with pictures of Casey with family and friends from Zazzle.com.
Then she put the sneakers in a lucite display box from The Container Store and had Casey’s friends sign the box with different colored paint pens. It now is a great keepsake in Casey’s room!

Casey's friends left him special messages on the lucite box

The Firouztale Family celebrated daughter Jules Bat Mitzvah on April 9, 2016, at Temple Judea in Manhasset, New York. A party in her honor was held later that evening at the the Village Club of Sands Point, in Sands Point, New York — a historical Guggenheim estate, adding to the magical evening in a majestic mansion.

Some advice from Mom Michelle
“Your planning cannot start early enough. Aside from booking your most important vendors way ahead of time, try to care for some of the smaller details on an ongoing basis-just keep checking things off the list. Join MitzvahMarket.com an unbelievable online resource for anything having to do with Mitzvah planning. Being well organized is definitely key to staying somewhat sane throughout the planning process and I found investing in the “Mitzvah Organizer” was one of the best decisions I made. It just made the entire planning process a lot easier. Have notepads on your night table-it’s funny how things come to mind when you least expect It. I often wondered how everything would eventually come together and somehow they just did. Make sure you take a step back the day of the event and just take it all in and don’t forget to pat yourself on the back for a job well done! Then enjoy one of the most special days of your family’s life.”
Mitzvah Project
Jules’ Bat Mitzvah project raised awareness for the Ronald McDonald House Long Island. Jules went for a tour of the house seeing firsthand what they provide to families of children confronted with illnesses seeking treatment at local hospitals.
Jules was proud to have filled two huge carts to donate to the Long Island Ronald McDonald House
Jules decided to collect non perishable items requested by the house, with two of her friends at the local Stop 'n Shop grocery store

Back in 2010, many of our readers were touched by one family’s idea to have their floral designer create their son’s Bar Mitzvah centerpieces from school supplies and then donate all of it to a school in need!
Mitzvah Mom Gail explained: “Instead of floral arrangements, Marc Wilson of Marc Wilson Design created individual arrangements for each table out of books and school supplies. The materials were all donated to the Harlem Children Zone after our party. Also, we had a book cake that was really great, and in theme.” She adds, “This all tied together as Jonathan’s Mitzvah Project was working at the NY Public Library, so books really started and ended the Bar Mitzvah, and it brought it all together.”
Recently, we found this DIY video from Hip2Save about creating a School Supply “Cake” and we immediately thought of Gail’s story and wanted to share this idea with our readers.

Todd Shapera Photography recently photographed a winning NCAA themed Bar Mitzvah that we couldn’t wait to share.
Bar Mitzvah boy Gavin loves college basketball and March Madness. Since his Bar Mitzvah fell during the first round of the tournament, the Wurtzburger family decided that would the perfect way to celebrate his special day. Todd Shapera Photography was the photographer for brother Ryan’s Yankee themed celebration and was brought back to photograph this one as well.
March Madness Mitzvah Style
Dad Rich works in the fashion industry and incorporated the logos of the schools the family loves on navy blazers. For Bar Mitzvah boy Gavin, it was University of South Carolina, Dad Rich is an Ohio University alumni, Brother Ryan is a huge LSU fan and Mom Jennifer is a Cornell University graduate, and she wore a beautiful red gown.
The family in their NCAA best included color coordinated outfits. The blazers, pants and matching belts were all custom made and coordinated by Dad Rich!
Even their sneakers matched the theme. Everyone wore logo'd sneakers.
Mom's shoes were custom made in Japan - notice those heels!
Decor and Party Details
Gavin is a South Carolina Gamecocks fan — the basis of the party theme. The logo was created by family friend Sherrie Goldstein of Logos and More. She took the “C” from Carolina and made it into a “G.” Garnet, the school color, was featured in the decor as well.
The Will Call booth was used for the kids to receive their VIP tickets, aka place cards
Mom and Dad came up with the idea for making each table a different college with the table linens to match the school colors done by Double G Productions
Gavin’s awesome logo was placed around the room and incorporated into much of the decor
College team decals were a great decor element
The bar was decorated with custom logo decals
The screen on the dance floor showed the live feed of the tournament games as they were being played!
The huge dance floor customized with a Gobo of Gavin's logo
The family hanging in the teen lounge area with custom pillows and posters
Clever drink signage
Wait Staff/Sign-In/Interactive Fun
Dad Rich dressed the entire waitstaff in NCAA jerseys of college “stars” from the past which they then could keep at the end of the night.
Chef Victor loved wearing his custom chef jacket with Gavin's logo
The wait staff had team spirit!
There were two sign-in options: one was an official NCAA game ball used for guests to sign...
And the other: four squares of actual game-used floor from a South Carolina Gamecocks championship game
A great shot of the live feed behind Mom Jenn on the dance floor!
During the cocktail hour there was lots of action in the kids' lounge including Pop-A-Shot...
...and Don't Dunk It-Plunk It
Montage
Dad Rich also put together the entire montage which included many familiar sports superstars such as Michael Strahan and Shaquille O’Neal.
Football great Michael Strahan
Shaq sending his best wishes to Gavin
Favors/Giveaways/Cake
The favors were created by Dad Rich. He designed long sleeved hoodie t-shirts for the kids as well as a custom drawstring bag.
Nike Elite socks were a fun add-on - set up like a souvenir shop
Great favors for the kids: bags with hoodies, displayed like a souvenir stand
Duffle bags for each of Gavin's guests
Lulu Cake Boutique created this amazing basketball cake
Hot pretzels (cinnamon-sugar and salt) and coffee/hot chocolate were offered to guests while they were waiting for the valet to bring their cars at the end of the evening
We thank Todd Shapera and the Wurtzberger family for sharing this great Bar Mitzvah with our readers.
