Whether you want to designate a kids’ area or want a club vibe, couches, ottomans, banquette and light-up tables can turn your venue space into a festive party atmosphere.

Lighting and draping as well as accessories like balloons, custom pillows, candles and flowers pull it all together and make the space look personalized.

Here’s a round-up of great lounges set-ups…we hope they inspire you for your child’s Bar Bat Mitzvah celebration:

A Tennis Themed Bat Mitzvah Celebration

The Forman family of Port Washington, New York, celebrated their daughter Charlotte’s Bat Mitzvah on September 26, 2015, at the Community Synagogue in Port Washington, New York. Later that evening, a reception was held at Haute Durvo, an event venue in Roslyn, New York.

A tennis player, Charlotte’s theme was CHARapova, inspired by tennis great, Maria Sharapova. The day and night were filled with friends, family and most of all, fun! Charlotte is one of Mitzvah Market’s teen bloggers, so we are especially excited to share her special day with our readers.

Some advice from Mom Jen:
“Take notes! I suggest writing down a list of those things you’ll need and want (you’ll forget everything the day of the party!): for example, write down your must-have photo shots as it tends to get quite hectic just before party starts and you might end up forgetting to take a picture with the entire family! Take a deep breath and keep telling yourself to enjoy the party!”

v2stamp_exit

If that wasn’t enough to satisfy late night cravings, as guests stepped outside they were pleasantly greeted by a food truck serving Forman family favorites such as grilled cheese and chicken tacos from Odies Gourmet Grill!

Bat Mitzvah Project: Rescuing Shelter Cats
January 3rd, 2016

Bat Mitzvah Project: Rescuing Shelter Cats

Rachel is an animal lover so she dedicated her Bat Mitzvah Project to saving the lives of shelter cats who are most at risk of being euthanized.

The funds she raised were for the Shelter Run Program of the Golden Paw Society, located in Huntington Station, New York. The Golden Paw Society is a volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing cats who have been in municipal shelters for an extended period of time and is committed to finding forever homes for them.

Rachel was among four honorees recognized for her fundraising efforts. She was presented with a plaque for her contribution to the Golden Paw Society at its annual “Golden Gala” fundraising event.

Rachel shared the details of this great Mitzvah Project with Mitzvah Market:

MM: Can you give us details about your Mitzvah Project?
RH
: My goal was to raise $1800 to save the lives of 18 cats through the shelter run program of the Golden Paw Society. Why 18? In Judaism the number 18 represents the symbol of Chai. Chai means life. I beat my goal and raised over $2,400 for the Shelter Run Fund to date, allowing 24 cats to be rescued.

MM: Why did you decide to take on this particular project?
RH
: A “shelter run” is when volunteers visit the municipal town shelters and rescue cats that have been there for an extended time or who are having trouble adjusting to shelter life. It costs about $100 to pay for medical/food/care expenses for an animal to be rescued. I worked with the Golden Paw Society to create a page on their website so that funds could be channeled to this cause.

MM: In your own words, what does it mean to you to do a Mitzvah Project for your Bat Mitzvah?
RH:
He who saves a single life, saves the entire world. This is a quote from the Talmud, the book of Jewish law. While I am not necessarily sure that this was written to include animals, I can’t say for sure that it excluded them either. As an animal lover, the most horrifying thought is for a cat to be euthanized or left in a cage alone and scared for too long because someone thinks it is un-adoptable. Many of these cats, if they had the chance, would make good companions. They need time, love and the chance to get out of a cage. I am hoping to help some of those cats with this project.

We thank Rachel for sharing her Mitzvah Project with Mitzvah Market.

Some advice from Mom Allison:
“Planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is overwhelming from photographers, videographers, flowers, décor, centerpieces, invitations, favors and more, it is enough to make anyone’s head spin. Stay ORGANIZED – it is the key to successful planning! An organized event is a well-run event. Remember to make the weekend about your child. Think of the children when creating such a big event. When the children have fun the adults will too!”

A Stylish and Traditional Bat Mitzvah

A Stylish and Traditional Bat Mitzvah

Ruth Ridgeway of Ruth Ridgway Designs sent us a very chic Bat Mitzvah she planned and coordinated at The Loading Dock in Stamford, Connecticut.

The Bat Mitzvah girl, whose Mom is a Rabbi, wanted to celebrate her special day with Jewish tradition in a contemporary way.

Using a black, white and pink color palette, Ruth Ridgway and her team created an elegant and hip celebration of life, love and family.

Mom Advice From Marci:

“Explore your options early enough so you don’t have to “settle” for a venue, DJ, etc. Be organized and keep a spreadsheet of your vendors deposits and due dates. Create one master guest list and then use that list to give to the invitation lady or calligrapher, the decorator for place cards and for yourself to print labels for your child when they write their Thank You notes! Also, have fun and enjoy the process. It all works out in the end!”
