Planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah for your child changes your life. Once you go through the planning process, you will become an expert!
After your celebration, you can give words of wisdom to others that only a Bar or Bat Mitzvah parent can understand.
We asked those who have celebrated this milestone event for their child to reflect on practical, silly and funny things that only this unique group can relate to!
THE 10 THINGS ONLY A BAR BAT MITZVAH PARENT CAN UNDERSTAND
- Your son or daughter will actually learn their Torah portion and make you proud!
- After your montage is done, you will lose sleep worrying if you left a particular family member out. But this montage will make you cry each time you watch!
- You will need slippers or something flat on your feet for the car ride home.
- There will be lots of No RSVPs – some you can predict and others will shock you.
- There will be some people who never send a gift or even RSVP!
- You will forget to eat the entire night and 5 hours will feel like 5 minutes.
- You might spend more money than you budgeted, but it will be on something special you had to have!
- There will probably be one guest (or a few) that will drink too much that everyone will be talking about.
- Don’t stress over the things that go wrong, you are the only one who knows they were supposed to happen.
- It WILL be one of the best weekends you spend with your family!

Melisa Imberman of The Event Of A Lifetime, Inc. coordinated a technology inspired Bar Mitzvah recently. This celebration at the Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk, Connecticut used the iconic “b”, found on the Beats by Dre, as the logo for Bar Mitzvah boy Bennett. The Museum was turned into a cool hi-tech lounge. The tech theme was incorporated into the decor, menu, lounge, bar, activities and unique candle lighting showpiece.
The photographer was Chad David Kraus Photography.
Bar Mitzvah Decor
The sign in the front of the Stepping Stones Museum "b Party This Way" gave guests a hint as to what they were going to see inside
The venue was lit like a hi-tech lounge
The entire night was centered around the interactive dance floor and over-sized screen which projected images of various tech gadgets such as iPhones and computers
The LED tables and Acrylic chairs completed the modern look
The "b" Gobo was projected on the dance floor
Signage over the kids' soft drink bar read "bennett's bar"
The "b" logo on the front of the adults' bar looked awesome
Custom logo'd pillows
The other custom pillow with #bennettbarmitzvah
Bar Mitzvah Candle Lighting
There were iPads instead of candles inserted into holes of the kiosk. Each one had Bennett's logo
When guests were called up, they touched the iPad and the logo turned into a lit candle with a flickering flame!
After all candles were lit, Bennett blew them out and the screens went blank
Special Details
Escort card display was a giant laptop with the “b” logo screensaver with personalized cards for guests that resembled an iPhone with a text conversation telling them where to sit
There was also a message from Bar Mitzvah boy Bennett
At each place setting, there was a menu card in the shape of a iPad with a text conversation about what’s for dinner
The yarmulke inscription included #Bennett Bar Mitzvah
Guests were encouraged to take pictures and post it on social media with the hashtag #bennettbarmitzvah
Interactive Fun
This Twister game was projected on the dance floor giving Bennett's friends the ultimate Twister experience. The “b” from Bennett’s logo was in the blue circle
With all the old-fashioned Twister fun
Guests got to slip on their virtual reality goggles and play video games
Bar Mitzvah Favors
The theme continued until the end with Bennett's guests leaving with favors in goodie bags that read "bye" with the "b"logo
Custom water labels read "thanx 4 coming"
We thank Melisa Imberman for sharing this great Bar Mitzvah celebration with our readers.
