The Mitzvah Bowl was created by two moms, Cheryl Friedenberg and Valerie Franklin (pictured left) in the Philadelphia area to provide a database of meaningful Mitzvah Projects.
The Website is like an organized menu for helping kids find the right project, something that is meaningful to them or their family. The Moms’ goal was to find unique ideas which go beyond basic fundraising. They wanted children to learn a sense of tikkun olam (repair of the world), responsibility, and a connection to their Jewish identity.
The Website, which is very easy to navigate, walks students through the process of choosing a Mitzvah Project. Is your child interested in sports? How about Pitch In For Baseball, an organization for collecting and redistributing new and “gently used” youth baseball and softball equipment to needy communities both in the United States and around the world. Into animals? There’s the Pals For Life where dogs help people with disabilities. Want to help other children? The Pajama Program provides new pajamas and new books to children in need.
Have your kids check them out, you will be doing them a Mitzvah!
