About National Greyhound Adoption Program:

Our mission is to find loving homes for ex-racing greyhounds. We have placed over 7600 greyhounds into loving homes. Our kennel houses about 80 dogs at a time. We operate a full service veterinary clinic where we offer spaying, neutering, vaccinations, xrays and dental to both greyhounds and publics dogs and cats.
Volunteer Opportunity: Usually students put in 10 hours of volunteering for their community service project. These students usually work with me and their volunteering is geared more toward their needs.
Suggested community service projects are:
-promote greyhound adoption by reading a greyhound story to preschool to 1st graders at libraries, schools or community centers.
-organize a dog walk (entry fee could include a jar of peanut butter or box of bones).
-have a flea market – solicit items such as children’s clothing, books and toys, etc. then participate in a local flea market
-arrange a used towel and blanket drive
-prepare a wish list for the kennel and ask a local grocery store to allow a few hours on a weekend where you could ask customers to purchase then donate an item on the list
-plan a fund raiser based on your hobby then sell the items at a local event.
The students that want to do 10 hours for their bar or bat mitzvah project normally do dog walking. We have about 40 – 50 dogs that love to go for walks and get one-on-one attention. Students 12 and older can walk a dog alone – If the student is a small 12 year old, then we ask an adult to walk with them double leashed with the dog. Dog walking is one way that we can profile the dogs to see how they react to people other than our kennel staff.
