M&Ms
These are not the M&Ms we grew up with. These are specialized, personalized and now glitzified M&Ms!
As many of us have seen, M&Ms allows you to create their little candy treats with personalized messages. When you go to MyMMs.com, you can select the candy color, the message and even the image. Yes! You can have an image such as a person’s face printed on the little candies! And just recently added is the M&M “Shimmer Collection.” The Shimmer Collection offers the melt-in-your-mouth-not-in-your-hands candies in platinum, gold and pearl. These are meant for more upscale favors! We like it! Check out MyMMs.com for more!

Necessity is the mother of invention. And when one Mom needed her daughter’s tights to have grippers on the soles for gymnastics class, she came up with the idea for Grippies. Grippies allow you to make ANY pair of socks or tights safe. You simply apply the Grippies like stickers. Genius! It might be worth considering grippies for the socks you will most likely hand out at your child’s Mitzvah.

Discovery Toys independent consultant Barry Elias reached out to us with a Mitzvah Project Idea that we thought was worth passing along! We conducted a simple Q & A with Barry to get the scoop:
MM: Why should someone consider collecting toys as part of his/her Mitzvah Project?
BE: Some children simply don’t have access to educational toys during the first 5 years of their lives. This critical period, before they start school, is where the foundation is set for developing a lifelong love of curiosity and learning. Developmentally appropriate toys enable children to think critically, strategically, and creatively.
MM: How can Mitzvah Kids help in getting educational toys in the hands of underprivelged children?
BE: Kids can build their Mitzvah Projects around putting award-winning Discovery Toys into the hands of underserved children, at home or abroad. Kids can help outfit a playroom, supply a birthday closet, donate to a local hospital, or they can create their own ideas.
MM: How does Discovery Toys help with these types of Projects?
BE: We will match the Mitzvah gift with a 10% contribution of our own.
MM: Have you personally been a part of such a Mitzvah Project?
BE: When my son Blake had his Bar Mitzvah, instead of adorning the bimah in the synagogue with flowers, he provided an enormous toy chest filled with educational toys. In the days after the celebration, he hand-delivered those toys to two local institutions: a Reach Out and Read Program at a local hospital and a Harlem preschool program. Following the presentation of both gifts, he spent time reading to and playing with the children. As you can imagine, this was a rewarding experience for my son and the children.

Mitzvah Project Idea…Gear Up! Foundation
Baseball is upon us! If you are a fan and/or a player and are looking for Mitzvah Project ideas, you could always take your love for baseball and turn it into a Mitzvah Project. We recently heard about an organization called, Gear Up! Foundation that could be a part of your Project.
Gear Up! Foundation was established to provide baseball equipment to underprivileged kids in the NY tri-state area. Many kids never get a chance to play the game many of us love, and they miss out on the experiences associated with playing baseball, because of a lack of resources. By collecting both funds as well as new and used equipment, Gear Up! is trying to change all that! Even better – Gear Up! will arrange to have the equipment you want to donate picked up! Play ball!

We recently met Meredith Jacobs who not only is an author, but also created a fabulous Website ModernJewishMom.com. Like all of us, Meredith juggles her own work schedule, shuttling kids to soccer, attending PTA meetings and everything else that goes along with raising kids and having a husband! In her book, The Modern Jewish Mom’s Guide to Shabbat, Meredith, who seems like the ultimate modern mom, explains to readers how Shabbat is one of the best ways to bring your familiy closer in spite of a hectic schedule.
Meredith’s guide is filled with helpful tips, recipes, prayers and discussion questions all presented with a refreshing and modern twist. Whether you were born and raised Jewish, are in an interfatih marriage, a recent convert, or simply want to bring more tradition to your family and into your home, you will love this book.

Have Your Guests Plan The Music At Your Mitzvah!
Mitzvah Market Mail reader Aimee sent in a fabulous idea that we just love. It’s from a wedding invitation and RSVP card she encountered, but we think the idea can be applied to your child’s Mitzvah.
On the RSVP card, not only were you to indicate if you were able to attend or not, you were also instructed to write down one song you would like to hear at the reception. The bride and groom could then compile a list of songs that the guests would like to hear. Thanks for the idea, Aimee! We think it’s brilliant!

Oh, how our kids misplace things! Just this morning, we are searching for a pair of brand new gloves that I am sure are at school. And since they weren’t labeled, no one will ever know how to return them to the rightful owner. If only we had had a bunch of Mabel’s Labels.
Mabel’s Labels are “labels for the stuff kids lose!” (Love the tagline!) And we all know that means we can label just about anything: clothes, toys, luggage, etc. When the time comes to label your children’s belongings for camp, we think Mabel’s Labels just might do the trick.
Added bonus for the highly organized Mom: Check out Mabel’s Labels line of Custom Neat Freak Combo lables that lets you organize your kitchen, work space and more!

Create A Virtual Ticket
No rock concert (or sporting event) is complete without the classic souvenir – a cool ticket stub. If you are having a Rock Mitzvah or a sports-related Mitzvah, check out this Website and make your own ticket. You can choose to have them printed on a variety of mediums. We think they would make great Save the Date announcements or custom placecards for the night of your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Check it out.
