The Mitnick family of Jamison, Pennsylvania, celebrated daughter Remi’s Bat Mitzvah at Ohev Shalom of Bucks County in Richboro, Pennsylvania, and a reception later in the evening at Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland, Pennsylvania.
The theme was “Remi’s Ice Cream Shoppe” with accents of purple throughout the details and room decor.
Pictured L-R: Mom Melissa, Sister Allie, Bat Mitzvah girl Remi, Dad Andrew and Sister Macie.
The photographer was Den Sweeney Photography and the rest of the vendor information is listed at the end of the spotlight.

Lauren Cohen of Invitations and More worked with the family. She helped them created an invitation with shades of purple and silver accents that reflected what Remi wanted, but stayed in her dad’s budget!

The Saturday morning service was held at Ohev Shalom of Bucks County. There was a kiddush luncheon held there afterwards.

The tallit was made out of tie-dye lace and Remi chose a junior bridesmaid dress to wear that complemented the colors in the tallit perfectly!

Remi looked great for her party in a strapless beaded and tulle cocktail dress from Party Girls. The colors were lavender with silver and purple beading

Sisters Allie and Macie and Mom Melissa also looked beautiful. The sisters wore flower girl dresses in silver with touches of purple from Layla’s Boutique. It coordinated perfectly with Remi’s dress. Mom Melissa’s strapless gown was from Sposabella Bridal.

The theme was Remi’s Ice Cream Shoppe.

The kids’ place card table with Remi’s friends’ names placed on an ice cream cone. As guests arrived there was an awning that held the place cards made to look like an ice cream shoppe window

Designer Events by Laura took the family’s ideas and made their vision of an ice cream shoppe come to life. Each table was a different flavor and the arrangements, napkins, and chair bows were all the flavor color.
The “Coffee” ice cream table had coffee-colored embellishments to keep with the theme. There were handmade candles that looked like scoops of ice cream on each table

The “Cherry Vanilla” table.

And, of course the “Chocolate” table.

The pastel accents really popped against the white linens.

An ice cream cone sign-in custom designed by House on the Lake on Etsy.com that now hangs in Remi’s room. Remi loved all of her messages

The sign-in looked good enough to eat and now hangs in Remi’s room as a delicious keepsake of the day

Remi’s signature drink, “The Remsicle,” suitable for adults only.

MC Romeo and the All Around Entertainment team made sure everyone had a good time on the dance floor. Remi entered on the dancers’ shoulders.

Remi was all smiles as she reached for one of the hanging ice cream cones.

Kids had a great time playing games.

Remi surrounded by her friends

Remi and her dad have a fun relationship and doing the serious father/daughter dance just didn’t seem to fit. Remi danced with him for about 30 seconds and then she jokingly kicked him off the dance floor. Then the girls took over and all the guests loved it. The girls performed their version of The Bella’s final song “Price Tag/Don’t You Forget About Me” from their favorite movie.

The beautiful purple cake was from Lochel’s Bakery which looked elegant and tasted delicious. Notice the “R” cake topper

Remi chose three candles honoring her candle lighting for the past, present and future. Remi’s sisters lit a candle together.

Since the party took place in June, custom beach towels were the perfect Mitzvah favor.

They all screamed for ice cream! Guests enjoyed Dippin’ Dots at the end of the night, Remi’s favorite.

Remi volunteered in the children’s division of Cancer Support Philadelphia part of Gilda’s Club. She chose this because she suffers from an auto-immune disease and wanted to try and help other children who either are suffering from cancer or who have family members suffering from cancer. This is a project that she plans on continuing because she really enjoyed the time she spent there.
Some advice from Mom Melissa:
“Take a step back from all of the planning and craziness to really appreciate how hard your child has worked to reach this point. It helps you keep in perspective what the day is really about and makes the celebration that much better.”

I’m a 7th grader and live in Westchester, NY. I love tennis, soul cycle, fashion, hanging with my friends, and traveling around the world. Camp Vega is my summer home and my favorite place on earth! I founded the company #Kindnessistherealcool for my Mitzvah Project, and invite everyone to visit us on Instagram @kindnessistherealcool and join the movement.
My friend Ava’s Bat Mitzvah was amazing! It was at Guastavino’s in NYC. Her colors were blue and silver and the theme was “Always Ava.”
She held her Bat Mitzvah service upstairs at the restaurant, and then the party moved downstairs for cocktail hour. There were a ton of games for the kids to play including a roller coaster simulation ride, foosball, a light up air hockey table, a flat screen for video games and more.

The roller coaster simulation ride and other games were provided by Untouchable Events
During the cocktail hour, friends of Ava made their presentations to her individually and the video crew filmed it so that she could watch it again and again. I thought this was a great way to do the presentations, so that the other kids could continue to enjoy all the activities during the cocktail hour.

Later, we were invited back upstairs for the party. The table holding the place cards was very cool

A woman was standing at the bottom of the stairs handing out socks for girls and boys that wanted to take off their shoes. I definitely did!

The party was beautiful. The kids had their own lounge area with sequin pillows and light up tables

In addition to dancing, there were more activities upstairs including a station to put on funky eyelashes!

There was also an airbrush station for flannel PJ pants

And a glass figurine station where you could order glass designs and then watch a man create them. I chose a necklace with a glass heart

Ava’s cake was really cool – it featured a scene of her in her bedroom with all of her favorite things including Gossip Girl, shopping bags from her favorite stores, her computer, etc.

Additionally, they gave out a lot of fun things on the dance floor including beanie hats that said AVA or her Bat Mitzvah date. I got one that said AVA. They also gave out light up sticks and light up jewelry.

At the end of the party, they launched confetti over the dance floor. It was SO COOL – everyone went crazy!

Party Planner: Amy Katz Events
Entertainment and Games: Untouchable Events
Cake: Creative Cakes

When your Bar Bat Mitzvah guests arrive at your child’s celebration, one of the first things that greets them is usually the place card table.
There are many ways to let your guests know where they are sitting and today we have found many creative ideas!
Check out our past story about place cards here.

Cutie Patootie Creations created ticket place cards to match the baseball theme of this Bar Mitzvah celebration

The Sands at Atlantic Beach was the venue for a NYC themed Bat Mitzvah using taxi cabs for the place card holders

This travel themed Bat Mitzvah included mini suitcases with a custom place card label filled with chocolate from Balloon Artistry

These place cards were tied to mini lanterns with a battery-operated votive candle. For this group candle lighting ceremony, the guest of honor made a speech and asked all his guests to turn on their lantern at the same time

Planning a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah celebration can be stressful. There are many details and decisions that need to be made for your family. It’s a milestone event that will be shared with family and friends and remembered for years to come.
Many families get their creative ideas by seeing how others celebrated. You can also ask questions and get advice in our Philadelphia Bar Bat Mitzvah planning group on Facebook.
Here is a list of local Philadelphia Bar Bat Mitzvah experts.
Below are families that celebrated their child’s Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah in or around the Philly region. We hope these give you inspiration for your child’s party.

The Bednoff Family had such clever wording on the Save-the-Dates! “Lettuce TACO about it” set the tone for this celebration on Cinco de Mayo. When opened, guests found them stuffed with extra large confetti and sealed with bold address labels that read “Hola!”

The Bari Family had a laid back, fun celebration including for daughter Bari that included a cool new interactive technology LED bracelets that integrated everyone in part of the light show

The Zatman Family – These brothers celebrated at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. This party was designed to recreate the excitement and energy of a packed sports arena from the marching band and tunnel entrance to the custom jumbotron, food and favors.

The Epstein Family – This high-energy party, held at Beat Street in Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania, celebrating Alec focused on the kids and most importantly, fun!

The Becker Family – This celebration, at Tendenza event space in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania featured a black and white Halloween theme and some fun elements from Emma’s favorite television show, “Pretty Little Liars”

The Mitnick Family – From Jamison, Pennsylvania, this reception was held at the Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland, Pennsylvania. The theme was “Remi’s Ice Cream Shoppe” with accents of purple throughout the details and room decor

The Siegel Family – For their celebration, the Siegel’s from Richboro, Pennsylvania, had an evening reception at Southampton Day Camp in Southampton, Pennsylvania. Jeremy loves hockey and this venue was transformed into a hockey arena for the night

The Brown Family – This family from Doylestown, Pennsylvania celebrated with a big kids’ party at Back Steps, part of Beat Street event venue, with a “JCB Stadium” theme

The Kortick Family – A “Liv It Up” themed party at Green Acres Country Club in Lawrenceville, New Jersey

The Dunoff Family – An art themed celebration at Artesano Ironworks in Manayunk, Pennsylvania

The Berger Family – Sydney is a “techy” girl so her “iBerger” theme was perfect for an evening of fun at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Cooper Family – A huge football fan and player, Danny celebrated his Bar Mitzvah reception with the theme, Cooper Bowl XIII at the Green Valley Country Club also in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania

Who better to find the latest and greatest for all things Bar Bat Mitzvahs than our own Mitzvah Moms!
We have spotlighted over 200 families and we thought it would be fun to call out some of the “Mom Finds” that you might have missed.
For the Nussbaum’s second child Carlee, they wanted something completely different than their son’s Bar Mitzvah in 2006. Carlee loves texting and circles and they were able to incorporate both into their theme, “LOL With Carlee.”
The Nussbaum’s have a third child who will be celebrating his Bar Mitzvah in 2018. Since there will be 9 years between Carlee and Brett’s celebration, Mom Tracey wanted to remind guests of his Bar Mitzvah date. She created a funny poster using Big Huge Labs, a Website she found on MitzvahMarket.com!

A family owned company, with over 25 years of experience, ITC has earned its award winning reputation as a the leader in Israel and Jewish travel worldwide. Tour highlights include, top English speaking guides, deluxe 5-star hotels (in the best locations), duel office in the US and abroad, and Bnai Mitzvah preparation kits which includes the each child’s Torah portion and prayers.
All ITC Family Tours are kid friendly, with lots of hands on activities every day. Their program is designed with an educational background, that is planned and arranged for multi-generational family groups.
Mitzvah Market sat down with the staff at Israel Tour Connection to learn more about their business:
MM: Why should families celebrate their child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah in Israel?
ITC: The passage from youth to adulthood is a momentous event and an especially significant one in Judaism. Whether this is your child’s sole Bar or Bat Mitzvah experience or a celebration of a simcha held at home, there is no better way than to celebrate with family and friends in Israel!

MM: Why choose a group tour?
ITC: Traveling on a group tour with families like yours makes for an incredibly fun and educational experience. By the second or third day the kids are sitting and hanging out together and even discussing the events of the day! Our tour groups stay connected long after their tour is over via Facebook and social media, and some even schedule reunions for those in cities close by! By choosing an ITC group tour it also takes the stress out of coordinating and planning the details on your own. Leave that to us!

MM: How much will it cost?
ITC: The Bar or Bat Mitzvah child goes for FREE on the land tour as our guest with two or more adults traveling. ITC is also pleased to offer an airline credit of $500 towards the Bar or Bat Mitzvah child’s flight cost. The price of a family tour in Israel will depend on the length of the tour you select and the time of year you travel. Tour costs are based per person and the tour is nearly all–inclusive, covering all hotels, touring and entrance fees, and most meals. You will be sent a full tour outline with all of the costs included. We will be more than pleased to work with you to customize any pre or post tour details for your family.

MM: What about the ceremony?
ITC: Our B’nai Mitzvah Ceremony is an incredibly moving experience held in the ancient synagogue atop of Masada. Your child will be well prepared for this important milestone, as we will send a full preparatory kit well in advance of their Bar or Bat Mitzvah date. The service is family oriented with everyone participating, and each child is called to the Torah for their individual Aliyah blessing and Torah reading. Families of all levels of observance find the service to be both meaningful and spiritual. Our Rabbi works with all of our ITC Tour groups, meeting in Israel in advance of the ceremony day to connect with the kids and families in person.
MM: What makes an ITC Tour special?
ITC: What truly separates an ITC tour experience is the hands on and in-depth experiences we offer. For example, when visiting the galleries and ancient synagogues in Safed you will meet with an artist in their studio to hear how they infuse the Kabbalist mysticism into their artistic creations. You will be invited for an incredible home hospitality experience on Shabbat dining with a private family in their home for a moving and personal Shabbat experience, making memories that will last a lifetime! Our ITC group tour also includes a MITZVAH project, allowing kids and families to “give back” as part of their Bar or Bat Mitzvah experience. Meeting with other children at the Jaffa Institute, the kids will get to play together and package boxes of much needed supplies for underprivileged families of all faiths. These are just a few examples of the many special experiences you will have.

MM: Will there be a party?
ITC: Of course! But not only are the Bar and Bat Mitzvah kids celebrated on their special day with cake and candle lighting, they are truly celebrated across the entire tour! Whether it is the fabulous boat ride on the Galilee and celebratory dinner in the North, or the camel trek and Beduoin tent celebration or the final farewell dinner party with live music and dancing – your child will be the center of attention throughout the entire tour!

MM: What about the tour details?
ITC: ITC takes care of all of the planning and tour logistics for you! With a full staff in Livingston, New Jersey, as well as our office in Israel your needs will be well attended to. There is no request to large or small that we can’t take care of. With a full air department we can assist you with your air travel plans as well!

MM: Should grandparents come?
ITC: Absolutely! The tour is designed to be multi-generational and we can absolutely make accommodations for those with special needs. Our guides are specifically chosen for these tours to expertly lead tours for ages 8 to 80! There is nothing as special as having extended family with you to experience this significant moment in your family’s lives.
MM: Describe a typical day on the tour.
ITC: The tour is an active one! It is specifically designed for three generations, where all will feel engaged and comfortable. You will take part in hands-on activities every day that will truly bring the country to life – whether it is an archaeological dig and cave crawl, a river rafting trip on the Jordan River, floating in the Dead Sea, a Jeep ride in the Golan Heights or planting trees in Israeli soil – each day is an adventure!
MM: What about the level of hotels on your tour?
ITC: Our tour is primarily a five-star deluxe hotel tour. You will stay in the famous David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem, the closest to the Western Wall with sweeping views of Jerusalem’s Old City, the cosmopolitan Carlton Hotel in Tel Aviv located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, and the deluxe rooms at the beautiful Kibbutz Lavi Guest house in the Northern Tiberias Region!

Facebook is such a great tool for sharing your voice and getting your brand and product into the hands of new users. However, there are definitely some challenges that come with this social media platform as you’re trying to promote your business. Facebook will throw you into jail if you don’t follow their guidelines or if you act too spammy. We want to help you avoid jail with these guidelines so listen carefully.
1. Take a Break in Between Posts
Don’t post a bunch of content right in a row. Leave some time in between posts to avoid being marked as a spammer.
2. Be Careful Tagging
Facebook doesn’t exactly like it when you tag people in posts and images that they aren’t actually in. Keep it real and avoid spamming people.
3. Never Add Someone to a Group Without Permission
Always invite or ask people to join your group. Never invite them without their permission.
4. Don’t Post Images from Google
Make sure you get your images from a good source and not from Google images. Using images you found on Google can mark your account as spam.
5. Don’t Use Your Personal Account as Your Business Account
Make sure you use your real name for your personal account and your business name for your business account. Don’t confuse the two and make your personal page all about business.
6. Like and Comment at Normal Paces
When you like and comment on other user’s posts, make sure you don’t do it as fast as you can, like a robot. This could mark you as a spammer. Make sure your comments and likes are all genuine and thoughtful and not just for the returned engagement.
7. Only Friend Request People You Know
If you’re talking to someone and have built a relationship, go ahead and friend them. Just don’t let Facebook catch you friend requesting a bunch of people you don’t know and getting rejected or deleted. This could flag your account.
If you follow these guidelines, it’s a lot less likely you’ll end up in Facebook Jail. Or worse, blocked or banned from Facebook. Facebook takes these things seriously and so should you. That being said, at the end of the day, don’t forget that you should be having fun with your account! Post away!

Bottle Pop Party Company, an event planning firm outside of Philadelphia, recently planned a Parisian themed Bat Mitzvah for Ella.
Owner Shannon Wellington worked with the family, particularly Ella, in choosing the perfect theme to showcase her sophisticated and modern taste.
Decor and details included a color palette of hot pink, bright yellow and french blue, along with black and white stripes and a pink heart everywhere. There was also a bonbon shop, patisseries and a mime!
Everything was tres chic!
Photography by Morgan Bayard Photography.

A hint of the theme in the invitation pictured here with the menu card. The Hebrew at the bottom means “We Adore Ella.”

The custom program for the service

As guests entered, they were greeted by this chalk stand which captured the feeling of the day

Window pane drink signage

A French vignette for the place cards, inspired by the famous love lock bridge, and a bicycle with flowers…very Parisian

Visitors flock to the Pont des Arts bridge to lock their love, so it was a perfect way to use Ella’s logo for the place cards

Signage explained the history of the bridge

The room decor was black and white stripes with hot pink napkin linens

A pink parasol was used on top of the flower arrangements with pink frames with table names such as the “Eiffel Tower”

We love the cheery arrangements in bistro containers

The black menu card popped on the hot pink napkin linen encouraging guests a “bon appetit”

A crepe station, of course!

A classic french mime greeted Ella, the guest of honor

Mime Pearl got into the dancing action

An “E” for all of Ella’s guests to sign

A faux storefront for Ella’s bonbon (sweets) candy shop

Ella’s Patisserie was beautifully staged

A Parisian themed party would not be complete without pastries
We want to thank Shannon Wellington of Bottle Pop Party for sharing this Paris themed party with our readers it was simply C’est Magnifique!
