Alternative Mitzvah Favors For Your Young Guests

By Lisa Chalker, Family Affair Distributing, Inc.

Sweatshirts, t-shirts, socks, shorts…..wearables to the left of me, wearables to the right of me…..when is it going to end?

Does this sound like you or someone you know? Have your kids amassed a small mountain of various wearables from all the Bar & Bat Mitzvahs they have attended? These “wearables” are taking up space in drawers, closets, floors and any other vacant spots in your child’s room.  Have you ever prayed for someone to give a favor that doesn’t go on your child’s body?

Here are six great alternative favors that are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face and decrease the amount of wearables taking over your home!

1. The Gumball Machine – This favor is in the $10-$15 category and is fully functional. It comes with gumballs and you can have your child’s name and date of your event printed on the clear dome. The gumball machine also comes with a white gift box and is refillable.

2. A fleece blanket – Also in the $10-$15 range (for a minimum order of 50), these blankets are soft, come in many colors and can be imprinted with your child’s name and date of your event. They are useful and can even stay with your child throughout High School and College.

3. Customized Calendars – This idea is great for the adults guests and/or young guests. For a minimum order of 100 pieces, you can customize calendars with pictures of the Bar/Bat mitvah child, have special dates highlighted in the calendar and more. It’s all customizable and looks like a regular calendar.

4. Dog Tags – For under $10.00, how about a pewter dog tag? The front can have a graphic that is themed for your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah theme and the back can have your child’s name and date of the event. This is totally customizable so it really depends on what you need.
