Bar Bat Mitzvah Project Idea: School Supply Cake Centerpiece

Back in 2010, many of our readers were touched by one family’s idea to have their floral designer create their son’s Bar Mitzvah centerpieces from school supplies and then donate all of it to a school in need!

Mitzvah Mom Gail explained: “Instead of floral arrangements, Marc Wilson of Marc Wilson Design created individual arrangements for each table out of books and school supplies. The materials were all donated to the Harlem Children Zone after our party. Also, we had a book cake that was really great, and in theme.” She adds, “This all tied together as Jonathan’s Mitzvah Project was working at the NY Public Library, so books really started and ended the Bar Mitzvah, and it brought it all together.”

Recently, we found this DIY video from Hip2Save about creating a School Supply “Cake” and we immediately thought of Gail’s story and wanted to share this idea with our readers.
