Mitzvah Style: The Dress That Comes To You!

Let’s face it, as Mitzvah Moms most of the planning does fall to us, especially when it comes to fashion.

If you are just beginning your search for the perfect dress or are at the end of your rope for yourself, your child or siblings, you need to know about Pink Bubbles.

We recently caught up with Sandi Marans, one of the owners, to learn all about this unique business:

MM: Please describe your business.
SM:
We like to think of ourselves as Tupperware ladies of the fashion world! We make the fashion part of your Mitzvah extremely convenient by bringing the process right to your home. We make it easy for Moms and help the daughters create their dream dress. We can also design for the Mom and siblings too. We specialize in social occasion dresses: gowns, party suits, short dresses etc.

MM: How does the process work?
SM:
Ideally we would like to have at least 5 months prior to your event, but we can also accommodate other time frames as well. My partner Maria, an FIT graduate and I look at the process in four parts.

1. We set up an appointment to come to your house, meet with you and discuss what you and your child like by asking lots of questions. Princess look? Short? Long? Clubby? Additionally, we discuss color and fabric options, so we can send you samples until we get it right! We also bring along our line of dresses to see what you might like. Then we start sketching.

2. At the second appointment, we bring the dress in muslin to make sure all the measurements are correct.

3. For our third visit, we bring you the actual dress and the tweaking begins.

4. By the forth visit we present you with your dream dress.

MM: Have you noticed any trends?
SM:
What the Bat Mitzvah girl wants doesn’t change too much. A princess dress with lots of tulle in all shades of pink is most popular among the girls. They also love embellishments of pearls and crystals.

MM: It’s very important that each dress is unique, how do you keep track?
SM:
We are very careful about designing a unique and special dress that isn’t like your friends. We keep track of where you live what school you attend, camp – to make sure nothing looks the same.

They can also design/create outfits for Temple or a more casual celebration

MM: How do you handle the “hard to please” Bat Mitzvah girl or someone who just doesn’t know where to begin?
SM:
We specialize in those types. Usually the Bat Mitzvah girl knows! We tell them to do their homework. Pull pictures from teen and fashion magazines and create a folder. By looking at what they pulled, we usually can tell if they prefer a sweetheart neck, one shoulder, criss cross, or bubble dress look. Then we have them try on a similar dresses with that look, so she can get a good idea of what that style will look like on her.
